Townsville Hospital

The alliance between Thomson Adsett and HPI (TAHPI) were engaged along with Cox Rayner to undertake a Campus Wide Master Plan for the redevelopment of Townsville Hospital.

The Master Plan evaluated options for the Townsville Hospital campus taking into consideration the services to be provided as described in the Clinical Services Plan, demographics, future trends and existing facilities. Future proofing formed a key principle of the Master Plan and included life cycle considerations, possible re-fit, expansion and redevelopment opportunities of current and proposed new infrastructure.

Upon completion of the Master Plan, TAHPI and Cox Rayner were commissioned to provide full architecture and health planning services for the first stage of the redevelopment comprising redevelopment of the emergency department, new 34 bed inpatient ward and expansion of the existing medical imaging department.

More recently, Queensland Health instructed TAHPI and Cox Rayner to commence services for the remaining stages of the project including the expansion and relocation of neonatal and paediatric intensive care units (NICU and PICU), relocation and expansion of existing intensive care unit (ICU), expansion of existing peri-operative suite, including 2 new operation theatres, and new co-generation central energy plant.
