In 1902 Sister Mary MacKillop built a Providence for Sisters to provide assistance and accommodation for homeless and unemployed women on a Melbourne inner-city site.
The site was much loved but falling apart from years of wear; the brief was to completely redevelop the site and retain its existing uses while changing the focus of the building’s use with the creation of a museum dedicated to Mary MacKillop.
The two heritage buildings on site (estd. 1902 and 1871) were painstakingly restored to the original designers’ intent, creating a special place for the public to connect with the building and the history of the founder.
