Sue Kenny Principal. Sydney.
- Bachelor of Architecture (Honours), UQ (1985)
- Bachelor of Design Studies, UQ (1981)
- Registered Architect, QLD & NSW
Sue has practised in the field of Aged and Dementia-Care Architecture almost exclusively for over sixteen years. Sue graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1985 with a thesis investigating different residential accommodation types and the effects of their integration into existing communities, and is registered to practice in both Queensland and New South Wales.
As a senior Project Architect, Sue has been responsible for the project management, strategic planning, design through to building completion and 'settling-in' of many frail-aged hostels, nursing homes, residential care facilities, independent living projects and integrated retirement villages. ThomsonAdsett foreshadowed the direction of the Aged Care Reform, and Sue was responsible for the design concept of the first complete 'aging-in-place' Residential Care Facility in NSW (opened and operational prior to 1 October 1997).
Sue has previously served as a member of the Architectural Committee of Aged Care Queensland Incorporated, and is a representative of the RAIA on the Queensland Department of Housing, Local Government and Planning Building Committee, as well as a committee member with the SAA to produce the new Standard AS4299, Adaptable Housing. Sue was instrumental in starting the Aged Services Association (NSW) Building Committee twelve years ago and now provides advice on building, regulatory and design issues to the aged care peak industry bodies. Sue has presented several papers at National and International Aged-Care Conferences on many topics. A detailed list of speaking engagements is available on request.
